Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine is a major part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has been used for centuries in China, where herbs are considered fundamental therapy for many acute and chronic conditions. It describes thousands of medicinal substances—primarily plants, but also some minerals and animal products. In TCM, herbs are often combined in formulas and given as teas, capsules, liquid extracts, granules, or powders.
Chinese herbs focus on helping correct dysfunction of certain organs and unhealthy body patterns. Comparing with chemical medicine, Chinese herbal medicine is much gentler and safer because it is made of natural herbs. In general, herbs can treat a wide variety of diseases and conditions, including frequent colds or the flu; acute diseases and conditions such as killing bacteria or a virus; chronic illness such as gastrointestinal disorder, respiratory disorder, allergies, immune system deficiency, infertility and allergies.
Cupping
Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy that uses cups—typically glass, bamboo or silicone— as suction devices that are placed on the skin. time. Cupping helps keep the body in balance, loosen muscles, reduce pain, and sedate the nervous system. The pressure that the cups create draws blood to the affected area, increasing blood flow overall to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation.
People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. Some athletes use this type of therapy to decrease muscle recovery. For weight loss and cellulite treatments, oil is first applied to the skin, and then the cups are moved up and down the surrounding area.
